Memes

Before I start discussing my meme tablet, today we're  going to have a Public Education Post explaining What IS a meme?

Memes are words or images that spread widely on the internet. They're usually funny, but they can be hateful. And they repeatedly mutate into variations. For example:

So - "ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO US" began as an amusing mis-translation from a video game. Now, if you google "'ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO US meme", you will see thousands of variations.

Here are more examples:

The original figure was first given new dialog, then morphed into many other figures.

Sometimes, memes that start out playful (like Pepe the Frog)....

...get turned into hateful memes. Pepe is now a recognized hate symbol.

There are a horrifyingly large number of hate memes, like Racist Dog. Some people find these funny. I don't.

There is a website which explains the story behind popular memes: Know Your Meme. Just Google it. There are also sites which help you to generate memes. They have the templates for 'I don't always' and  'Y U   NO' and the rest. You can type in your own wording.

You now know everything that I know about memes. Hope it helps. Next up, the Meme Tablet.
