Fox News

Back when I posted the Bestiary Tablet, I mentioned that there was going to be a companion piece. At that point, I had designed, printed and painted it. The Beastiary Tablet explains that "THE FICTITIOUS ANIMALS IN A MEDIEVAL BEASTIARY WERE MEANT TO TEACH MORAL LESSONS". The Fox News Tablet tells us that" THE STEREOTYPED MINORITIES ON FOX NEWS WERE MEANT TO INSTILL FEAR"

The bizarre creatures in a beastiary were just as fictional as the characters on Fox.

There is no compendium of stereotyped minorities so I looked for my images on pages of editorial cartoons:

Many, many Arab/Muslims cartoons available to copy. Not so many Black and Hispanic figures at this time.

This is the first design, with Aunt Jamima...

When I added the lettering, it didn't work at all. Next version has even more figures stuffed into it (too much = never enough).

Several of the images that landed in this version were originally drawn by the artist Glenn McCoy. He certainly deserves full credit for  capturing such feeling in his work, and creating these amazing drawings. I tried to contact him, give him a head's up that I was using his art. Funny thing: Go to his website, press the CONTACT button. It tells you that you can click on his email address to get in touch. When you click it, you are connected to an FBI site for reporting terrorism! I can only hope that someone with that sense of humor appreciates my style....

OK, next post will have the finished tablet and all the details.
