On John Oliver’s wonderful show, Last Week Tonight, he has a segment called “ And Now This”. It’s short side note to the main theme of the evening. Here’s my side note:
When I was creating the mailer for my religion post a couple of weeks ago, I thought of this tile. Most of the tiles in the This Too Shall Pass series focused on obsolete communication. But I also played around with the tile format, the strict 6 inch square, using my most inviting fabrics and my hoard of little pieces. No back story, just fun to look at. Hope you enjoy.
I like playing with the concept of a tightly shut door (portal/window/whatever) and an encroaching flood of minutiae - shutting it all out? Safely weathering the storm?
The wires with circles at the end? That’s the part of the rosary beads that holds the bead. The section marked ‘Eau de Lourdes’ supposedly held a drop of magical water from Lourdes.
These tiles have never been shown before. My art doesn’t easily fit into any of the regular art categories, and these don’t even fit into my series.
Have a Happy Halloween, and next Monday - finally! - we have the finished Ephesus Library tablet.
