an unbearable catastrophe

Fire has destroyed the National Museum of Brazil. Almost all the collections are gone.

The 200-year-old museum had been badly neglected.

I can't imagine anything surviving this blaze.

One writer said it's like a lobotomy of the national memory. The Washington Post wrote:

Some of you may remember my Library of Louvain Tablet, (you may be able to see it by clicking here): http://www.dianesavonaart.com/blog/?offset=1504100594655 ,which showed the destruction of so many medieval texts.  Those books were destroyed in war - this was lost to neglect. Here's a few items from their collection:

So many small bits and pieces of history, all gone.

I will make a tablet about this loss. It's all I can do. I have no words of consolation.
