Opus revisions, continued.

Something at my visit to the Seattle Art Museum - who knows what? - made me rethink these two women. Should I really focus on their textile activities?  My idea was that they would be holding things together (by a thread), but - is spinning the best counterpoint to the apocalypse? Maybe not….

Food, and food preparation, is probably more globally resonant. So I collected Medieval images of women cooking….

Vermeer’s milkmaid (on the left), above) is perfect. Now we need her partner….

(Above) I could take the balance out of Vermeer’s Woman holding a Balance and give her a spoon…

It would have been nice to use this young woman (Above), to let her smack that lecherous old bastard and sit alone. But the woman chopping food in a wide bowl (Below) fits best compositionally:
