A bas relief of maternal figures

You’ve seen the collected figures. Here’s a few of the many versions of the composition:

Facing out - oh, no.

Facing in, with some strong color.

I got it in my head that each figure had to have a narrow bottom, so they would fit nicely. No more spreading your legs out comfortably….

After they were all narrowed and neatly fit, I realized how very rigid that looked. So, go back to the original images, and try again:

This one (Above) looks very similar to the next three, but each has some small change…

In addition to desaturating the colors, I finally got rid of the knitted edge in the center. For several days, I wanted to get an old loosely knit red sweater and use it over the red background. But this has evolved into a maternal composition, and I’ll save the red knit for another piece.

I went back and gathered more images - of children. Now, a diverse group of kids is playing in the middle.
