My sister Joan suggested attaching the fibulae to a patchwork…like the one hanging on my wall. That does have more organized visual appeal, even though it completely loses the meaning. But….I had another jacket, which I couldn’t use on the mannequin because I had ripped out the back for another project.(below) Perhaps that jacket could morph into a patchwork???

(below) So I went back to my old boiled-wool technique, letting reds and dark browns leak onto the tweed:

(below) Throw in some of the lining material, some old plaid, and put some of that red right in the middle, to draw in the eye….

(below) And after a few dozen other configurations, it’s starting to take shape. See the light tan arc over the red? That’s the backing of the jacket collar. A neckline from an old sweater forms the head, and a belt really holds it together. The explanation can be printed on the clothing tag.

So… there will be TWO pieces: the jacket on the mannequin AND the Jacket Quilt. This gives me lots to work on! I’m going to create additional ceramic fibulae for the quilt - what you see (above) is just the leftover fibulae from the mannequin.
